The site, part of the ChenlaKingdom, includes an area of nearly 1000 acres enclosed by double walls, and over 150 temples and towers; its construction predates Ankgor Wat by several centuries. It is the ruins of the city of Isanapura, the pre- Angkor khmer Kingdom known from Chinese chronicles as Zhendla (Chenla).
